These are an easy way to add some color and quirk to any area in your home. We happen to be without a headboard, so I chose to hang these above our bed.
You will need:
- Embroidery hoops of various sizes
- Lots of brightly colored floral, patterned, or printed fabric of your liking
- Needle, Thread, Scissors
- Fabric Glue- for this project I used FabriTac, and I would highly recommend it. It's quick and strong (be warned- it will take off your nailpolish).
Place your fabric in the embroidery hoop. If you've never used one, there are two wooden circles. One of them has a little screw-like contraption on the top. That one goes on the outside. Cover the inside hoop with the fabric and slide the outside one over it. Pull your fabric taut and then tighten the screw on top. There should be excess fabric around the hoop. Choose a complimenting (or contrasting if you're like me) color for your heart. Cut it out and sew it on using a running stitch.
Trim the excess fabric around your hoop so that it is about 1 to 1.5 inches long.
Using your FabriTac, squeeze a line of glue around the inside of the wooden hoop. Press the fabric over onto the glue.
Do this all the way around until you have no excess fabric loose. Once the glue dries, they are ready to hang! I used red and white bakers twine on all of mine for a crafty look. If you are hesitant to cut your fabric or glue it to the hoop, you can leave it with the excess fabric showing, but it won't hang flush against your wall, and will poke out kind of goofy.
I wanted to hang them sporadically, with no real shape, but there is lots of room for variation. Play around with it and have fun! You could sew all kinds of different shapes, or none at all. I hope you'll give it a try!
